Candlelight of Truth
Hi. Could you introduce yourself?
I’m Richard Lee, I’m from 10th grade, and I take 10th Grade Art with Ms. Pantano.
What were the general instructions given for this project? (How much of it was asked for and how much of it depended on the individual?)
I was asked to cut black and white pieces of paper for the artwork, so no other colors were required. I basically sketched out [my drawing] on the sketch paper first, then used black paper to paste it on the white paper so that I wouldn’t have to cut out white pieces.
Is there a story behind this scene?
Indeed, yes. It’s almost been a year now but there was a candlelight rally at Gwanghwamun and I went there with my dad. I felt really passionate about expressing this to the world and I thought that maybe I could put this into my artwork.
So you would say that art is a media where you can express your views on the world?
Yes, I believe so.
What do you like about this work?
I like that this artwork can be funny, but it’s also serious, since that was just how Korea was exactly.
Are you satisfied with it?
I’m generally satisfied.
Generally? Would you change anything about it?
Well if I were to do it again, maybe I would work more on the string part, where it’s falling off right now.
