Q: Firstly, can you briefly introduce yourself?
A: My name is Sooyeon Kim and I'm a senior at Seoul International School.
Q: Did you have any inspiration for your artwork? If you had, which artist or artwork were you inspired by for this artwork?
A:No. I started working on my ceramics tile piece with no concept in mind, so I just tried out different things with the lines and shapes.
Q: What kind of art do you usually like?
A: Photography, especially portrait photography. It's the only form of art that I've had experience working with for an adequate number of years and have enjoyed since, and more so because I haven't been exposed to other forms of art.
Q: Which materials did you use to make your artworks?
A: I used clay to create the whole piece and used glaze paint to add color.
Q: What do you think is the best thing about your artwork?
A: I would say craftsmanship because I put in a lot of time and effort in making the details stand out.
Q: During the process of creating your work, what difficulties did you face?
A: Before starting on this piece, I thought that the process of creating the tile design from scratch would be the most challenging, but the last step of painting the tile turned out to be very difficult and time-consuming, mostly because my tile design contained a lot of intricate designs and small components that required detailed craftsmanship to paint each one.
Q: Would you like to give any final words to the audience who will visit CDS gallery and look at your work?A
A: I'm not an art major
Q:Firstly, can you briefly introduce yourself?
A:My name is Yondoo Kim and I'm 11th grade. I'm currently attending in AP Studio Art class in CDS.
Q: Did you have any inspiration for your artwork? If you had, which artist or artwork were you inspired by for this artwork?
A: I did have inspiration for both artworks. The landscape was inspired by the movie 'The Garden of words', directed by Makoto Shinkai. I was fascinated by the nature drawn in the movie, so I wanted to attempt to draw something similar. The background of Dessert drawing was inspired by Onepiece, made by Oda Eiichiro. The shiny looking food in the manga made me want to try drawing food with black pen and make it look so glossy.
Q: What kind of art do you like?
A: I mostly like any kind of art, but I especially like the drawings done by watercolor. I usually use watercolor, so I learn a lot from looking at others’ works. But I also get fascinated by oil paint works because of the skills used. Most of the reasons for why I like a kind of art is because I admire the techniques.
Q: Which materials did you use to make your artworks?
A:I used watercolor and colored pencil for the Landscape. For the Dessert, I used only watercolor for the main object and black pen for the background.
Q: What do you think is the best thing about your artwork?
A: The best part of my artwork are the detailed depiction. My watercolor techniques are shown well in these artworks.
Q: During the process of creating your work, what difficulties did you have?
A:The difficulties I faced during the process of creating my work was that I had to go and take pictures of the landscape I wanted to draw, due to copyright issues. Also, it was my first time using watercolorm paper, so it was awkward. But I overcame those issues and the final piece turned out successful.
